Treasury and IRS officials convene roundtable discussion.
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is launching a program that will allow a select number of taxpayers to interact with a pilot online tax-filing system. The Treasury Department will launch the test run of the system for the 2024 tax season.
Development officers from the IRS and Treasury Department recently met to discuss how best to run the pilot program. Laurel Blatchford, the Treasury’s Chief Implementation Officer for the Inflation Reduction Act, and Bridget Roberts, the IRS Acting Chief Transformation Officer, held a roundtable discussion with civil rights organizations to learn how a direct filing service with the IRS could benefit Americans, particularly underserved communities.
“Dozens of other countries have provided free tax-filing options to their citizens, and American taxpayers who want to file their taxes for free online should have an acceptable option,” stated Chief Blatchford.
